Actors Ensemble of Berkeley Request for Proposals Staged Readings for Winter 2018/Spring 2019 Theme: "Unexpected Kindness"
Actors Ensemble of Berkeley is taking proposals from Directors for Staged Readings (which may be turned into main stage productions) of plays with the general theme Unexpected Kindness.
We hope to produce 2-3 staged readings in both the Fall of 2018 and Winter of 2019, with venues TBD. Each staged reading will involve 2-3 rehearsals, and a performance on a Monday or Tuesday in the Fall of 2018 or the Spring of 2019. There will be a stipend of $100 provided to the director. We will hold open auditions beforehand. A successful proposal may also lead to a main stage production in the future.
The sucessful proposal will be by the proposed Director of the staged reading under consideration. We encourage plays which feature a (largish) ensemble. We regularly cast cross-gender/race. Plays which require obtaining performance rights should include some information about how to obtain them and how much they cost, though that is usually not an issue. Please also include information about schedule availability for the Director in question.
We encourage new and emerging directors, and persons of all genders, sexual orientations, and colors to apply.
Proposals should be submitted to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. on or before midnight PDT, July 31st, 2018.
Proposals should include:
*play title and playwright
*publisher, if any, how to obtain rights, and cost information.
*length of play -- not over 2 hours and one acts are fine
*director's availability between October 2018 and May 2019
*director's resume and best way to contact
*how the play connects to our staged reading theme
