Remembering Jeff Dunn and Thank you to Susan Dunn
Actors Ensemble is very proud of our acclaimed production of Death of a Salesman, which closes its run today in a sold-out final performance. This production would not be the success it is without the contributions of the entire cast and staff. With heavy hearts, we'd like to especially remember on this day the composer and performer of the beautiful, heartfelt original music for this production, Jeff Dunn, who also designed and recorded the various sound effects in cooperation with the cast. Jeff passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on November 21st.
In the coming weeks, Actors Ensemble intends to provide a selection of the music Jeff composed for Death of a Salesman on AE's Youtube channel. The cast of Salesman dedicated their performance on Sunday, Nov. 24th to Jeff's memory.
Jeff Dunn (composer of original music and sound) a true Renaissance man, was a lifetime member of the National Association of Composers, USA. His musical Castle Happy was showcased at the Altarena Playhouse in 2017. This year, he completed Finding Medusa, an operetta with librettist Madeline Puccioni. Jeff had a PhD in geology, and spent time as a geology educator in Grand Teton National Park, computer programmer, and project manager in varied locales from New York to Texas and California. For the past 20 years he was a professional music critic, writing for the San Francisco Classical Voice.
Jeff was also an accomplished photographer and a lifetime member of the Photographic Society of America (his bio and a selection of his works is found at their website). Jeff was a member of the Dramatists Guild and he and his wife Susan were major contributors to theatrical projects across the Bay Area and dear friends to many. Jeff is survived by his wife Susan Dunn and an extended family in the Bay Area and Arizona. A celebration of his life will be held at Altarena Playhouse at a date still to be determined.
We'd also at this time like to thank Susan Dunn for her gorgeous and inventive design and accquisition of all the properties used in Death of a Salesman, as well as her involvement in numerous Actors Ensemble projects in the past, which she has always performed with incredible care and attention to detail.
Susan Dunn (Props) is privileged to be working on this fifth show for Actors Ensemble of Berkeley. A dedicated theater professional, administrator and Bay Area theater critic, she is on staff at Altarena Playhouse and writes for Theatrius, Aisle Seat Review and Reviews Bay Area. Susan is wowed by the amazingtalent and great vibes from this cast and crew and is thankful to be part of the team.
